An integrated biopsychosocial and medical assessment that includes a patient’s history (including past, family, and social history), psychiatric history, a thorough mental status exam, other physical examination components as indicated, the establishment of a tentative diagnosis, and mental health evaluation of the patient’s ability and willingness to participate in the recommended treatment plan. In addition to prescribing medication, reviewing, and conducting laboratory or other diagnostic procedures, the examination may also involve discussion with family members or other sources.
